Sterling performance as Darling Cellars reaps eight Silvers at International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC)

MEDAL WINNERS ACROSS ALL THREE DARLING CELLARS’ PREMIUM RANGES

Darling Cellars, situated in the cool West Coast wine District of Darling (incorporating the renowned Groenekloof Ward), has added to its crop of awards this year by harvesting eight Silver Medals at the 2011 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), staged annually in London. The Darling Cellars Reserve Black Granite Shiraz 2010 won Best-in-Class with its Silver Medal.

Three wines from the top-tier Darling Cellars Limited Release range won Silver, as did three wines from the Darling Cellars Premium range, and two from the Darling Cellars Reserve range.

Darling Cellars, the west coast winery increasingly gaining recognition For its cool climate wines, has won a gold medal at this year's Mundus Vini International Wine Awards for their Bordeaux-style blend, Sir Charles Henry Darling 2007, a limited release; And at the recent Michelangelo International Wine Awards For their Reserve Six-Tonner Merlot 2010.

Wild Flowers in Darling

blog4Thst Coast flower region, an integral part of the Cape Fynbos Kingdom, boasts more than 1200 species of flowering plants. About 80 of these are endemic to the West Coast and known nowhere else. The rich flora of the West Coast occurs on mainly three different soil types, culminating in three distinctive vegetation types, namely, Strandveld, Renosterveld and Sandveld.

94th Darling Wildflower Show

The Darling Wildflower Society has held a show virtually every year since that first show in 1917. The ideals expressed by the founders still hold true today. They wanted to display Darling's God-given wealth for the world to see. At the same time they promoted the conservation of flowers amongst the farmers of the district, who have since maintained the botanical diversity of the region over several generations.
