A huge field of 142 wines were tasted. Only 7 wines were selected as Outstanding and the Chocoholic was one of them! One of the judges described the Chocoholic as: ‘A wine with cocoa and espresso on the nose and on the palate an explosion of berries and velvet! A fruit bomb with great acidity and freshness’.
According to Pieter Niel Rossouw (head winemaker at Darling Cellars) it is incredible to start the new year with such great news! ‘This proves that the style in which the Chocoholic Pinotage is made is recognized around the world. Although the name refers to Chocolate, the wine is 100% authentic South African Pinotage. With the help of a small component of sun-dried grapes and aging on French and American staves, the intense red fruit, dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee flavors are obtained. This award to the Chocoholic Pinotage therefore indicates the potential of Pinotage to make different wine styles. A wine for any occasion.’
